Hello out there....
All of a sudden I'm totally into this blog, beginning to identify my place in this sphere and catching the world up with my work--done over the past year. The paintings below are part of a series of scenes of dancers who find themselves in various places they've never been but taking the Lord's role I've placed them there. There are actually 15 of these paintings. I'm teasing you with these two and hoping to find someone out there who'd like to see more of them. It may be your only opportunity to see them as I find that the local art world couldn't be more interested in displaying them than showing my toenail clippings.

Belated News-Really belated as I never posted this
It's over a year since my last post. Part of the responsibility for that is forgetfulness and the rest is a resistance to technology. The year of art has been spent painting, making new prints, learning to add depth to work by layering and combining techniques, and finding a new joy in line, color and a wandering through the past.
Exciting New Work
MORE NEW WORK, at last!
This portfolio of Three Poems is a collaboration with Bob Giannetti, internationally acknowledged published poet. He is also a lecturer and owner of Bob's Olde Books in Lewiston NY. We are old friends and have launched this enterprise with enthusiasm. The broadsides, as they are named in the Printmaking world, are available as a trio in a handmade portfolio or separately. If you are interested, contact me or Bob at his website www.RobertMGiannetti.com.

New Work at last
These pieces are mixed media hand-pulled prints exploring the nature of memory. Chimera, in Greek mythology is a combined monster, half-lion/half eagle, or the like. Such are our memories. Bits and pieces, real and imagined, idealized and distorted. It is a continuing series, not yet complete but each independent of the others.

Here are more paintings in the Family Series, probably the last ones. From the top they are "My Brother's Namesake (David Fisher)", "Embracing all Sides (Caroline Fisher)", and "Pater Familias (Gottlieb Fisher)". They explore a multi-media way to use 19th c. photos of real ancestors, mine even, but that isn't necessarily important. They are each about 28"x22", acrylic on canvas with real photos, copies of photos, ink, and old lace applied to the surface. Pieces of canvas have been machine sewn to create the full size of the paintings.

The Family Series Continues
Spring Swing, acrylic on unstretched canvas, 40"x 48"
Bunny, acrylic on canvas, 20" x 16 "
Judy, acrylic on canvas, 20" x 16"
This series is the result of looking at many, many old family photos. Since they exist there's no reason to attempt to duplicate them in paint. What I've hoped to achieve is an essence of a figure, a sense of place without actually describing it, a nostalgia for the past before I was born. All of these things and sometimes only one or two. They are intentionally under-painted as our memories as often indistinct sensory recollections.
